December 05, 2020 – The Loire River meanders through France before reaching the Atlantic Ocean. Rather than flowing swiftly toward the Mediterranean, its waters have chosen a northern route.

In a school assignment, a young girl responded to the question “where does the Loire originate?” with “In my father’s stable.” Indeed, one of the recognized sources emanates from this old farm. However, other claimants argue ownership of the spring, leading to a dispute centered around Mount Gerbier-de-Jonc.

To settle the matter, the Ministry of National Education dispatches a geographer from Paris to pinpoint the exact location and rightful owner of the source. Despite extensive calculations, the geographer fails to definitively authenticate one source over another. Consequently, they designate an additional location known as the Geographic Source.

Today, improvised signposts dot the area around Mount Gerbier-de-Jonc, inviting visitors to explore specific farms to admire the one true source of the Loire and sample local specialties. In an effort to reconcile all parties involved, a lucky charm has been placed at the center of all the sources.
